Decor's nice but as a bar it's pretty devoid of atmosphere; too many vapid people posing. Worth it now and again for the cocktails which are lovely, as are the bar staff. Doormen tend to be nice but there's one individual who barred my path and barked '21 bar' in my face; suppose I should be flattered, having reached that milestone some time ago, but there are less KGB-inspired ways of asking for ID.
I never leave reviews but was so disgusted by this place that I feel compelled to warn others off!
The service, with the exception of one lovely waitress, was abysmal. We were completely ignored for several minutes on arrival. On being shown to a window seat, the manager swooped down on us and informed us in no uncertain - and very loud - tones that we would have to move, as our table was reserved for someone else. On being shown to our new table, we waited five minutes for a menu, whilst aforesaid manager fawned over other (older, presumably richer) customers in our vicinity.
I have never felt so strongly that I was being continually tapped for money throughout our meal. The gentleman who took our drinks orders was not impressed at our request for tap water. The couple next to us were persuaded, none too gently, to buy Indian beer rather than Stella (more expensive, natch!) I think my personal favourite, though, was ordering a chicken biryani and being asked what sort of rice I'd like with it. When my dinner arrived, there was the biryani, with rice through it...and an extra order of pilau on the side.
Which brings me to the food. It started off well; aforementioned lovely waitress brought us poppadoms and mixed up a selection of dips for us. The curries themselves were tasty but the meat used bore absolutely no resemblance to chicken. Whatever it was was literally inedible. I have quite honestly had better quality meat from KFC. Consequently I feasted on two orders of rice. And adding glace cherries to a peshwari naan was an interesting ethnic variation...
£20 a head without alcohol would be extremely reasonable at a quality restaurant, but at this cesspit it was taking the piss. Will not be back - ever!
